Alcyoneum Coral Burnt Orange glass Graal Vessel
£2,520.00
H.25 x W.23cm
Alcyoneum takes its name from the majestic coral beneath the surface of the ocean.
The handblown vessel is made using a decorative glass technique called Graal that was developed by Orrefors of Sweden in 1916. The process involves cutting layers of coloured glass with diamond engraving wheels to create patterns and motifs. These ‘cups of colour’ are then re-heated and re-blown, as the form evolves and enlarges, these incised marks blend, soften and distort, creating ethereal watery effects.
Oberdieck's fascination with plant life and flowers goes back to her earlier textile practice when she hand printed botanical imagery on hand dyes silks.
